You ask what a Swat Kat is. Well just 'cuz I feel like being a nice alien I'll tell you.
On an M-class planet called Felinus, there is a metrapolis like city called MegaKat City. It is inhabited soley by kats.
MegaKat
City is protected by a police-like force called the Enforcers. Now the
commander of the Enforcers is your typical-by-the-book glory hog named
Commander Ulysses Feral. He will do anything to bring himself glory, even
if it means sacrificing some of his own Enforcers. Because of this attitude
he can never get anything done and if the protection of MKC were left up
to him then it would be long overrun by villains, gangs, and perhapes even
mutaions. This brings me to our heros- The Swat Kats.
Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson were two of the best fighter pilot Enforcers in MegaKat City. But Feral hated them (especially Chance) because they wanted to do things their way. One fateful day, during an arial pursute, Feral caused the two to crash when they didn't let him take the glory for shooting down Dark Kat (who is the main villian). Jake and Chance's plane crashed and ruined the new Enforcer building, and of course Feral blamed them.
In order to repay the cost of the building and jet, the two were forced to work at the MegaKat Military Salvage Yard. They were both pretty upset because they knew it wasn't their fault, but ther was no way to prove otherwise.
Then Jake (the smarter of the two) said, after surveying their new surroundings, "There's enough military salvage to build our own jet."
Chance, who didn't understand his parner's reasonings shot back, "and do what!?"
Jake replyied, "get back in the air and get back at Dark Kat, and all the other criminal scum who reered their ugly faces in MegaKat City. Only this time we do it our way."
That's how the Swat Kats were born. The creators never show the first time they appeared, but whe know them as the masked duo who fight to protect MKC. They are know only as T-Bone (Chance) and Razor (Jake), they fight crime in their cool jet, the TurboKat. They put their lives on the line everytime danger threatens and never once hesitate in the line of duty. But what are they really like?
Chance Furlong (T-bone) is the pilot of the TurboKat. T-bone is muscular , well-built, and has a tendency to do outrageous things at times. At first you might take him as your 'Big Oaf' type of Kat. True- he is your stereo-typical macho she-kat-Magnet. Inside this Macho-Kat is just a pussy kat. If you are in trouble T-Bone is the type of kat you can count on (most of the time). As mentioned above , T-Bone is a pilot , Oh-no, not just any pilot , the greatest pilot ever to take the sky after MegaWar II hero , Red Lynx. T-Bone is almost able to pull off any stunt in his 'Little Toy' the TurboKat.

Jake Clawson (Razor) is the weapons officer , the RADAR intercept officer, on the TurboKat. A sure-shot as well ( and one hell of a one at that). Razor ,is the type that 'looks-before-he-leaps' (unlike T-Bone) and the "Brains" of the SWAT Kats , always coming up with diversionary tactics Cmdr. Feral would die for. The SWAT Kats mostly use Jake's inventions , the TurboKat , Powerful state-of-the-art Supersonic triple-engine , variable geometry wing carrier-based Strike Fighter. Another one of Jake's inventions , the Glovatrix , is a paw-mounted contraption that can contains numerous gadgets in one package : Junior-versions of the TK's missiles , shields, grappling hooks , etc.
Razor well.. isn't the tallest of kats , but don't underestimate him for his size. He is one nimble , swift kat that can stealthily sneak up on you and have you in a no-win situation in a matter of silent seconds. Razor , when he is 'Razor' is very outgoing but when he is 'Jake' he becomes his shy, sheepish self (especially when it comes to she-kats).

Here's the scoop.... (can you believe Jake came up with this stuff all
on his own? Sheesh- smart kitty)
The TurboKat is a supersonic, triple-enging, variable-geometry sweep wing, two-place fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy vessel at night and day and at all weather conditions. The TurboKat can track up to 92 targets simulaneously with is advanced weapons control system and attack six with MM02 Matchhead missiles while continuing to scan the airspace. Armament also includes a mix of other air intercept missiles, rockets, and bombs. The TurboKat is a 2-seat triple-engine fighter with twin tails and variable-geometry wings . It's general armament consists of a long laccele nose RADAR and 2 crew positions extending well forward and above the widely spaced engines.
The engines are parallel to a central structure that flattens towards the tail; butterfly-shaped airbrakes are located beneath the fines on the upper and lower surfaces. The wings are shoulder-mounted and are programmed for automatic sweep during flight, with a manual override provided. The twin, swept fin-and-rubber vertical surfaces are mounted on the engine housings and canted outward.
The wing pivot carry-through structure crosses the central structure; the carry through is 22 ft long and constructed from 33 electron welded parts machined from Titanium; the pivots are located outboard of the engines. The normal sweep ranges are 20-deg to 68-deg with a 75-deg 'oversweep' position provided for shipboard stowage; sweep speed is 7.5-deg per second.
